Birthstones date back thousands of years and are mentioned in numerous religious
and historical texts. The tradition of wearing of birthstones as jewelry started in Eastern Europe
around 1400 A.D. There are at least four different categories of birthstones:
- Modern (like those shown here)
- Traditional
- Mystical
- Ayurvedic (or healing)
